Porto Carvoeiro is a village which is located in the extreme north of the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, on the left bank of the Douro River and is part of the Villages of Portugal. A place of natural inspiration, history and flavours.
Its surroundings are of enormous natural beauty, between the Douro and the Forest.
In the 1950s, this was the commercial centre of the municipality, having an enormous importance in its development. The boats would stop there to bring various goods, including foodstuffs that were later distributed throughout the municipality. On the way back the boats would carry wood and coal.
