The municipality of Arouca extends over an area of about 380 km². The village was born and grew around the Monastery of Arouca, true guardian of memories of these green lands, with a unique historical and natural heritage.
Benefiting from the fertile lands of the Arouca valley, the Paiva river and the protection of the Serra da Freita, our territory is provided by an unique and natural heritage that can be appreciated in the Arouca Geopark, being part of the network of classified geoparks of Unesco , where we can find the famous birthing stones, appreciate the beauty of Mizarela waterfall, discover fossils with many many years, admire the diversity of fauna and flora present in the region.
In addition to the natural heritage, we can still enjoy the beauty of its history and heritage dating back to the 10th century, with the foundation of the Monastery, where we can visit the remarkable Museum of Sacred Art.
